Jackie is a proud first first-generation college graduate currently working as a Project Manager supporting the development of machine learning models across the Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) product org. She was raised in Jalisco, Mexico and migrated with her family to the US when she was 10 years old. Although it was a challenge getting accustomed to a new culture she was blessed with great mentors along the way who instilled in her the importance of higher education.
Thanks to early advancement programs such as AVID, Early College High School and the NIH STEP-UP program, Jackie gained an interest in engineering and went onto complete an undergrad degree from Stanford University in Symbolic Systems with a concentration in Human-Computer Interaction. She was recruited into Global Operations through a “Facebook Minorities in Tech” panel her senior year.
Jackie understands the challenges of pursuing higher education and a career in tech as a minority, and strives to pave the way forward for minority students through mentorship and advocacy.
My name is Eduardo Valarezo aka "ed". I'm a 1st generation Panamanian American who grew up in SoCal and studied Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology at Cal Poly Pomona. My journey to and through college was heavily reliant on supportive programs like AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), MEP (Maximizing Engineering Potential), and EOP (Educational Opportunity Program) to name a few. Throughout college joining teams and building projects like SHPE, NSBE, SCETA, and Solar Boat were also key to my success. After graduation I worked in manufacturing at MillerCoors and RainBird. I recognized that I missed the fast paced innovative environment from Solar Boat and took a leap of faith to work for Amazon corporate projects in Seattle leaving everything I knew behind. During my 5 year tenure there I helped develop what today is Amazon Go and the early days of Amazon Prime Air, the 30 minute delivery drone. I’m currently a Hardware Integration Engineer at Facebook Reality Labs. I love it here! This is where we design Quest (VR), Portal, RayBan Stories, and other products focused on future use cases including AR. After 7 years I still live in the PNW with my wife and two children, we love the area.

Community-oriented education programs have been key to transform my life as a Bay Area, CA native and a first-generation Latinx high school and college graduate. I am driven by my personal and professional journey in building and directing educational programs for youth and young professionals with a racial equity lens and leading community-oriented initiatives. From the K-12 Classroom, to nonprofits, and now at Facebook, I have been able to gather best practices to build program solutions that create urgent pathways to opportunities in computer science education and overall digital skills training for historically underrepresented communities. My strengths combine designing & facilitating meaningful learning experiences and training, establishing strong and mutually beneficial partnerships, and scaling ideas into new campaigns, programmatic investments, and for product adoption. In my down time you will find me volunteering in classrooms, hiking the Bay Area, taking a dance class, or enjoying some down time with my husband and our yorkie, Frida.
